About Tree of Signs
The roots of a tree spread wide and deep to build a strong foundation and to
bring in nutrients for the continued growth of the branches and leaves. The
branches and leaves themselves reach out toward the sun, spreading upward and
out, to bring in more of the life-giving rays of the sun. The trunk of the tree is the
heart and the oldest, most solid part. All parts of the tree must be healthy and
strong if the tree is to thrive.
The increased use of American Sign Language in the United States has added
branches, leaves, and roots to the tree of the Deaf Community. Each new
extension serves to strengthen the community as a whole, and the stronger
community, in turn, continues to grow wider, deeper, and higher. Tree of Signs,
through the provision of accessible, adaptable, and friendly service, seeks to
further the growth of new branches and roots within the ASL-using community.
Tree of Signs was founded in 2006 to respond to a growing need for qualified,
fluent American Sign Language tutors and teachers.
