individuals are consumers too, and the ability to communicate with them is an
asset in any field. College-level ASL courses were at one time made up of nursing
and education majors, but now see high numbers of business students enrolling.

Yet others are learning ASL with the intent to go on to interpreter education
programs—a wise choice, given the extreme shortage of qualified ASL interpreters
